Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deeper pressure on the contacted areas. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue and fascia/muscular adhesions. In doing so range of motion is increased and lymphatic and circulatory flow is restored to the affected area. Deep tissue massage is both corrective and therapeutic.

For most people Deep tissue massage is what they are looking for if they have chronic pain in areas and want relief. We use many different deep tissue techniques as part of an over all approach when doing our structural bodywork with our clients.

Many clients ask if a Deep Tissue massage should hurt. The answer is No! There might be times in a DT massage that it is a little intense but if you are working together with the massage therapist and you both are communicating about what feels good or is too much pressure then it should feel very satisfying to the client. Our clients often say that sometimes it “Hurts so good” What they really mean is that while it feels a little uncomfortable at the time we are working a certain area the over all feeling is still very satisfying. Sometimes we hear them say, “that hurts a little but don't stop because I know I really need it”.

Many times we have scar tissue in the body or other facial restrictions and so if the client is breathing and focused on relaxing that area of the body as we work it and the massage therapist is working slow enough and with the right amount of pressure, then the end results are amazing! People who get used to DT massage say they could never be satisfied with just a regular Swedish massage again.
