Chronic Neck Pain Rises

Tension in the Neck & Upper Shoulders is Becoming More Common

Chances are you are reading this on a laptop or some mobile device like a tablet and in a horrible posture for your spine. Now don’t try to sit up straight because I suddenly mentioned posture. Believe me, the damage has already been done! Even if you are at your desk at work it is estimated that less than 15% of workers have had an ergonomics overhaul to their workstation. That means on average we spend 8 hours a day at work in a bad posture only to come home at night and sit on the couch and look down at our laptops and tablets in an even worse position for our neck and shoulders and low backs. It’s like we are all training our bodies and conditioning them to our computer postures. And people wonder about the job security of massage therapist… ha!

This is a typical scenario at Balance Wellness and Massage.

To help our clients get relief from this abuse, we would have to do a few things.

1. The first is to deeply relieve that chronic tension. (Deep tissue massage)

2. The next thing is straighten you back up and try to slowly change the lengths of the muscles that are chronically tight and contributing to your poor and painful posture. (Myofacial Release)

3. Then we need to help your muscles stay that way and relieve them from their over worked state. We want to help stop them from sending signals to the brain that they are on fire and are ready to mutiny. It is sort of like reprograming the muscles and appropriate nerves. (Neuromuscular Therapy)

4. And last but not least, after we have done all this very sophisticated body work with you , we need to also give the client some home-care stretching and exercises. They can influence change in their bodies between sessions to help them move away from their chronic aches and pains. (Structural Bodywork)

You wouldn’t expect to go see your dentist without brushing and flossing between visits and expect for your oral health to be in good shape. Well, this analogy works for massage too. We can do a great deal in a 60 or 90 min session to relieve tension and set you on a path to good health but if you don’t do anything to help yourself in between visits we will plateau fairly quickly.

I always recommend finding a massage therapist that has lots of advanced training. Well trained therapists have access to techniques to address all sorts of body issues. We hope you come see us on your own journey towards health, less stress, and a better body.
